After we delivered Elaine to the Sacramento Airport for her return trip to Portland, we started our search for some much needed brake work. It took a couple of days, but we found what we needed in Roseville, CA, and then traveled over the Sierra Nevada range, still aimed eastward. Donner Pass, in the Lake Tahoe area, posted 7227 feet on I-80, although the highest point is 8028 feet.
The straight line you see across the middle of this mountain is a sluiceway, where water was moved to gold mining locations years ago. The road is steep but the scenery is breathtaking, with rushing rivers and snow just above our road level.
KOA campgrounds are usually a good choice as we travel through unfamiliar territory.
